Sandaig
Took a trip over to Gavin Maxwell’s old haunt a few days ago in the boat.
If I hadn’t taken the boat it would have been a heck of a long swim.
The bay was completely devoid of yachts and there wasn’t a tourist to be seen ashore - very unusual at this time of year.
I took a turn round the bay and dropped a darrow over the side by the beacon but, sadly, to no avail.
The flat calm sea made for a fine crossing in both directions and on my return leg I spotted one solitary porpoise.
I hope he (or she) had more luck finding fish than I did.
Hospital
I was speaking to a nurse recently from Caithness, of all places.
She was telling me that the last 4 digits of the local hospital phone number is 5050.
According to residents in that area it’s very apt as your chances of survival in that establishment are 50/50 !
